Danforth Anchors provide tremendous holding power and great durability at a moderate cost. The flukes are strong and wide permitting the anchor to hold your boat in place even in tough conditions. Angled crown plates permit quick, deep penetration. Hot-dipped galvanized for long lasting corrosion resistance. As with all sea anchors, Danforth Anchors should be accurately sized according to the size of your boat.
A sea anchor works by resisting the movement force of the vessel which is attached to it by "hooking" into the seabed. Although it may seem logical to assume that wind and currents are the largest forces an anchor must overcome, actually the vertical movement of waves develop the largest loads, and modern anchors are designed to use a combination of technique and shape to resist all these forces.
Danforth Anchors, "The World's Most Trusted Anchor", were born in Berkeley, California, by Bill Danforth. Danforth Anchors sold primarily to the military and to a seaplane manufacturer based in New York. The business was sold during the late 1950's. Tie Down Engineering purchased Danforth Anchors from Rule Industries in early 2000.
